DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION
Live Broadcast Facility
One must agree that the only telling factor when watching a national political convention on television in this day and age is the iconic party symbol. The color scheme is always red, white and blue. The speakers all stroll to the podium with conviction and purpose. The crowd cheers for anything that moves. And, the latest and greatest technology to deliver the message is included at an ever increasing pace. The video wall technology is no exception.
When Bill Lorenz was asked to participate at the Democratic National Convention it was not as a delegate or because of party affiliation but as the engineer-in-charge. Responsible for the highly skilled, seasoned technicians and engineers to man the video wall, these tested crews were not rattled by live satellite feeds. Coordination with the secret service, evaluation of microwave line of site, finding the building engineer, getting a few empty rooms, locating the "fiber guy" and feeding the news "pool" are all part of the hours leading up to the live event.
